The origin of a sapphire does not guarantee its quality as each mine produces a wide range of quality but usually Kashmir receives the highest premium although Burma, Sri Lanka and Madagascar also produce large quantities of high quality gems. In addition to clarity, the most important thing is the color, which should be neither too light nor too dark, the most appreciated being sometimes known as &#8220;royal blue&#8221; or &#8220;royal blue&#8221;.
