This scarcity created the need for alternatives to replace silver, which was then more valued and more expensive than gold, and gave rise to white gold. White gold is simply an alloy of pure gold with other white metals, instead of the traditional yellow gold alloy, which, in addition to silver, contains copper. Gold, golden in color in its natural state, has been mixed with other harder metals for centuries to harden it and make it easier to work with, as it is too soft. These mixtures or alloys are what determine its purity and color. In 1917, after 30 years of research, New York jeweler David Belais unveiled to the public for the first time a new type of gold, which he called white, creating a new alloy in which the gold-colored metal, the product of mixing with other metals, acquired a white\/gray tone.     Currently, 18k white gold consists of an alloy of fine gold with silver and palladium, and the final rhodium plating is responsible for giving it a platinum-like shine and color, since white gold does not naturally have that color or shine and instead comprises a wide spectrum of tones ranging from gray to yellow or light pink.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today, the use of platinum in jewelry has been significantly reduced and has been mostly replaced by the use of white gold, which is easier to work with, has a lower melting point, and offers the same results.
