18K white gold ring with diamonds
We present our wonderful white gold rosette ring with eight-cut diamonds and a central marquise-cut diamond, an original and elegant piece with an asymmetrical design marked by the movement. The 0.60 cts marquise diamond is set in a prong setting and sits obliquely on the piece, breaking the symmetry in a design with an undulating motif. The diamond, being so hard, can be cut in many ways, a privilege that is not proper to all gems. Normally what determines the type of carving chosen is the rough shape it has when it is extracted from the mine, a shape that will be studied in detail to determine how to get the maximum brilliance by reducing waste. Being the hardest mineral known to man, a diamond can only be cut with another diamond. Thus, the rough gem is sculpted using a metal disc on which diamond dust is fixed to define and polish each of its facets.
The Marquise or marquise carving is a carving with an elongated shape ending in a point at both ends. It usually has 58 facets with 33 in the crown and 25 in the pavilion, although the number of facets in the pavilion can vary between 4 and 8. It is a very luminous stone in the center whose sparkles are less luminous at the tips and which appears larger than other stones with the same carats because it has a very large table. Also called Navette in French for its resemblance to a small boat, is a carving that according to legend was commissioned by Louis XV in the eighteenth century for the Marquise de Pompadour and inspired by her mouth. Other legends tell that it was the Marquise herself who wanted the diamond given to her by her lover to have an original shape never worn by any other woman. One way or another it is a delicate and feminine size especially popular in necklaces and earrings, ideal in rings for slender fingers when mounted in the direction of the finger or for those who love jewelry with a distinctive touch as is the case of our ring.
