We present our emerald and diamond ring, a piece that stands out for its elegant and minimalist design. Flanked by three brilliant-cut diamonds on each side, the 1.41 carat emerald has a wonderful intense green color in which the famous “gardens” and small inclusions can be seen.

Minerals, when formed, are not isolated and it is for this reason that we find inclusions of minerals within crystals of other different minerals. Emerald, a green variety of the beryl family, is produced in the earth’s crust by the interaction of hot water and saline fluids that transport ions and valuable elements that then crystallize and its “gardens” are created from temperature changes in which the encapsulated elements expand or take gaseous form for example. Gem quality emerald must be transparent and, as with other gemstones, it is considered finer the fewer inclusions it has. However, unlike most gemstones where inclusions tend to detract from their value, inclusions in emeralds are often appreciated as they are a distinctive, almost intrinsic feature, a characteristic of the gemstone and proof that it is natural, authentic and can determine its origin.

With a high hardness typical of beryls, the emerald is nevertheless a delicate gemstone because of the multiple inclusions that can compromise its durability. For this reason they are often treated with oils that act as protectors and are cut in the so-called “emerald cut”, an octagonal cut, usually rectangular or square, that seeks to protect the gem at the corners, its weak point. The most appreciated characteristic of an emerald is its color. The most appreciated are those from Colombia, which have a bluish-green tone.
