18K yellow gold 40s ring with synthetic rubies and diamonds

Introducing our 18 kt yellow gold ring with rubies and diamonds, a piece from the 1940s with a Deco influence that transports us to the years after the Second World War. With synthetic rubies and brilliant-cut diamonds in platinum settings, this ring, also known as “Chevalier” in Spain, is a comfortable piece of jewelry that accompanies the hand, dressing it with the unmistakable style of the period.

As a direct consequence of the restrictions on precious metals, especially platinum needed for the arms industry during the Second World War, the jewellery style of the 1940s and 1950s was characterised by the almost exclusive use of yellow gold. Similarly, during this period, slightly less valuable gems were also used, such as amethysts, citrines, aquamarines and synthetic variants of rubies and sapphires that had already been produced since the beginning of the century following the work of the French chemist Auguste Vernehuile in 1902.

This rounded ring with square-cut synthetic rubies is clearly dated to the 1940s due to its Deco influence, a style that was present in the bourgeois shops of the time. The term Chevalier to describe this type of ring is not entirely appropriate as the Chevalier ring historically refers to the male seals used by members of the nobility to seal documents with the crest or symbol of their house or family, however it is a relatively common term to describe this type of ring in Spain.

The ring measures 11/51, has 10 brilliant-cut diamonds for a total of 0.40 carats and 8 synthetic faceted pyramidal faceted rubies. The ring weighs 8 grams and is made of 18 karat gold.
