18K rose gold ring with rubies and pink opaline

We present our Vasari ring in rose gold with rubies and pink opal, a different and original piece in which the staples with animal claws motif contrast with the softness and delicacy of the central gem. Shaped like spider legs, set with rubies and plated in black rhodium, the staples that seem to hold the gem, give a gothic touch to the piece.

Animal motifs, both real and mythological, are present throughout the history of jewellery and have been used in a variety of ways. Mythological animals were, for example, a favourite of the Renaissance and also of Art Nouveau. The term Gothic, for its part, derives from “Goths” in relation to the Germanic tribes and was introduced by Giorgio Vasari, an Italian architect, painter and writer considered the first art historian, in the 16th century.

Gothic jewelry was generally large pieces loaded with religious symbolic content, but nowadays it corresponds to an underground style. Related to gothic rock, whose aesthetics take their inspiration from gothic literature during the British Romantic period of the late 18th century. It is a literature that combines fiction, horror, death and sometimes romance, and which in the current gothic aesthetic is translated into a mysterious, dark, gloomy, vampiric and sinister style.

The pink opal, the star of our ring, is a hydrated silicon oxide. It differs from rose quartz because, unlike the latter, it has water molecules inside. Carved from a flat base, 14 facets rise upwards with subtlety, giving the piece a very discreet height and a light quality.
