The origin of wedding bands as we know them today dates back to the 1960s when De Beers, the large corporation dedicated to the exploration, cutting and trading of diamonds, wanted to find a use for diamonds that were not large enough to be used in solitaire-type engagement rings. It was this need that led to the opportunity to create pieces containing a large number of diamonds smaller than 0.25 in size, culminating in the creation of the “eternity” ring, so named because it is a band with diamonds all around the circumference.

The use and manufacture of rings with gems is, however, older, and it is possible to find this type of ring in the 18th century with gems such as rock crystal and white topaz. Towards the end of the 19th century we began to find some half-eternity rings with rose-cut diamonds and other precious stones, and within the Belle Epoque style it is common, for example, to find examples made of gold and/or platinum with ornamental engravings on the sides.

The two main types of wedding bands are half-band and full-band, meaning the gemstones cover the entire band or only the portion visible above the finger. The setting, in turn, determines the style and can be more or less elaborate. There are many types of settings, but one of the most traditional and representative is the prong setting, as in the case of our wedding band, handcrafted through a sawing and filing process.

From the 1960s onwards, diamond wedding bands were marketed for special occasions such as a significant anniversary after the wedding, as a piece that could accompany an engagement ring and/or the wedding band. Eventually they began to be manufactured in other colors as well, with the classic combination being the 4 most prestigious gems: diamonds, blondes, sapphires and emeralds.
